Personal profile

Personal Statement

Welcome to my personal profile page!

I am a Senior Research Fellow in EPRC. I have been a member of EPRC since 2000 where I have undertaken research on the design, implementation and evaluation of public policy, EU Cohesion policy, regional policy in Italy, and accountability in policy-making. My research interests also include: European governance and institutions; devolution, regionalisation and multi-level governance in the EU Member States; the involvement of civil society in policy-making; and comparative European politics.

My background is in political science and economic development. I have an MA in Political Sciences (cum laude) from LUISS University in Rome, a Masters in Economic Development from the InstitutoTagliacarne, also in Rome, a PhD in European Public Policy from the University of Strathclyde, and a PG Cert in Advanced Academic Practice. My doctoral thesis, on the changing accountability of Cohesion Policy in Italy and the United Kingdom following devolution, was awarded the First Prize in the prestigious Committee of the Regions Doctoral Thesis Competition 2011. I also have professional experience as a civil servant in the fields of economic development and Structural Funds programming in Italy.

Within EPRC I managed many research projects, several with international research partners, including the ex post evaluation of the management and implementation of 2000-06 Cohesion policy (ERDF) in the EU25 Member States and a major evaluation of the long-term impact of Cohesion policy in 15 European regions (1989 to present), undertaken for DG Regio, European Commission. I am also co-Director of the IQ-Net network and research programme and have authored a number of scientific publications and policy papers.

As well as being a member of the Editorial Board of SVIMEZ’ RivistaGiuridica del Mezzogiorno, which focuses on Italian regional policy, and of a number of learned societies, I am a coordinator of the RSA Network on Cohesion Policy, and President of APSA’s related Conference Group on Italian Politics and Society (CONGRIPS) as well as Secretary of the PSA’s Italian Politics Specialist Group (IPSG).

Within EPRC I am currently responsible for developing a  ‘International Masters in Regional and Territorial Policies’.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
