Personal Statement

Research Associate in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering working on developing novel treatments for carbon-based radioactive wastes.

Our aim is to determine the feasibility of smouldering orphan radioactive waste to produce a waste ash and to capture the radioactive gases emitted, including radiocarbon (14C). We are investigating methods for gas capture via microbial induced precipitation of carbonate and phosphate minerals. The minerals produced will be considered as an alternative material for radioactive waste encapsulation.
