Dr. Jie Yuan currently is a Lecturer in Aerospace Centre of Excellence at the University of Strathclyde. His research interests are mainly on the nonlinear dynamics and control with main applications to aerospace structures. He graduated as an aerospace engineer from University of Bristol in 2012 and then obtained the PhD degree in aerospace dynamics from the Rolls Royce Composite UTC within Bristol Composite Institute in 2016. Before joining Strathclyde in 2020, he had worked as a research associate in Rolls Royce Vibration Technology Centre at Imperial College London. He also worked with Airbus UK between 2015 and 2017, leading the research in the multi-diciplinanry aircraft design and optimisation. He holds honorary/Visiting research fellow position from University of Bristol from 2016, Cranfield University from 2017 and Imperial College London 2020.
The purpose of his research is to advance the understanding of complicated dyanmic phenomenon, and improve the vibration prediction of these systems involving different type of nonlinearities and uncertainties. It can help to shift the conventional paradigm from deterministic and linear design to robust and nonlinear design, which would expand the feasible design space and tolerable operational conditions leading to safer, more resilient and efficient aerospace structure. The main focus of his current research is to address four main themes:
