Projects per year
I am a historian of science, technology and medicine at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. As co-lead on a UK-German collaborative research project, I am working with patient groups to investigate the contested use and regulation of drugs in pregnancy and the risk of birth defects. My first book will reconstruct the remarkable transformation of pregnancy testing from an esoteric laboratory tool to a commonplace of everyday life. I have longstanding research interests in health activism and medical film. I recently developed a new interest in the history of face masks as embattled health technologies.
