Dr Ioanna Nixon is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and a Visiting Professor in Executive Education and Development at Strathclyde Business School. She is also an accredited executive coach, working with senior professionals across healthcare and beyond.

She has held a number of senior leadership roles at regional and national level, including Clinical Director for Oncology Services at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Cancer Innovation Lead for the West of Scotland. Her leadership work has focused on service transformation, quality improvement, patient experience, and the integration of innovation into clinical pathways.

Dr Nixon has contributed extensively to national and international oncology and research networks. Her roles have included Clinical Lead for the Scottish Sarcoma Network (2015–2021), Chair of the NCRI Head and Neck Epidemiology and Survivorship Clinical Studies Group, and membership of the Scottish Medicines Consortium New Drugs Committee. She has also served on advisory and clinical groups within the British Sarcoma Group and NCRI.

Alongside her clinical work, she holds a number of developmental and educational roles. She is an NHS Consultant Appraiser and Educational Supervisor, and mentors clinicians and PhD students across leadership and professional development programmes, including the Scottish Improvement Leader Programme (NES).

As an executive coach (AoEC accredited), Dr Nixon supports individuals and organisations in leadership, performance, career development, and resilience. She also contributes to teaching and facilitation in leadership and wellbeing, including national and international programmes.

Her academic background includes a PhD in Radiotherapy, an MPH in Epidemiology, and formal qualifications in leadership, management, and medical education.

Dr Nixon has been recognised for her contribution to leadership and patient-centred care. She is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FFMLM) and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR). Her work has been recognised through national awards, including the BMJ Awards and the Scottish Women’s Awards.

Beyond her formal roles, she is involved in initiatives focused on prevention, wellbeing, and patient-centred innovation.
