Graeme McAvoy

Graeme is a proactive, flexible and approachable individual who has significant experience in both Further and Higher education. Graeme has a specific interest in Early Years Pedagogy, Play, Leadership & Teamworking, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.  

After graduating with a BA in Childhood Studies, he worked in Nursery settings in Renfrewshire, as a Pre-Five Nursery Officer working with children aged 3-5 years. He also was employed as a Service Manager for an Out of School Care setting,  with a range of children and families at both nursery and out of school care age.

Graeme has a strong work ethic and committed to developing both his personal development and the personal development of others to achieve their future ambitions and dreams.

Graeme is currently employed by City of Glasgow College in the Faculty of Education & Humanities. He is also a Teaching Associate in the Strathclyde Institute of Education supporting the BA Childhood Practice programme. Graeme is also an Appointee for the Scottish Qualifications Authority, working as an External Verifier and Qualification Development Specialist for HNC, HNC and PDA Childhood Practice qualifications. He is registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland within the category of Further Education and a qualified Early Years Practitioner, with experience of working with children from 2 to 15 years of age.

Graeme is currently undertaking the Doctor of Education (EdD) at University of Strathclyde and has a specific interest in researching under-represented groups in the field of Early Learning & Childcare. His MEd thesis was titled: "Why do so few men work and study within Early Learning & Childcare in Scotland, and what can be done to promote ELC as a career for them?"
