Esra is a doctoral researcher at Strathclyde Business School. She got her bachelor's degree in Mathematics and her master's degree in Science and Technology Policy Studies. She returned to academia after having a long professional experience in her home country. She worked as a Scientific Programmes Expert for about 15 years at the Scientific and Technological Research Council, which is the most prominent research institute in Turkey. During this time, she mainly was involved in entrepreneurship programmes that fund R&D based entrepreneurial projects. She also took part in the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme implemented collaboratively by UNIDO and her institution. She published a book chapter on Entrepreneurial Mentoring and Practices (the book titled “Innovation-based Entrepreneurship in Turkey”, published in Turkish, 2021, ISBN: 978-605-399-575-3).
In her doctoral research, she investigates the impact of social innovation interventions at the policy and programme level and examines programme processes to uncover hidden mechanisms of social innovation. She adopts a realist approach and uses secondary data to overcome the context dependency.
