Personal Statement

Esme Lillywhite is a doctoral student at the Institute of Education, University of Strathclyde. Her research focuses on the moderating role of education and childhood relationships in intergenerational income mobility. She is also part of the Institute for Institute for Inspiring Children’s Futures Doctoral Research Centre.

She has previously worked on projects including Nuffield Foundation funded Covid-19 and Social Mobility, ESRC funded Family Background and Education Attainment, and was also a freelance research associate on the Shaping Social Mobility: Education & Employment project for Cumberland Lodge.

Esme holds a Masters in Internatinoal Development from Sciences Po, and a BA in Politics from the University of Exeter. Outside of academia, she is a keen advocate for social mobility and equal opportunities.
