Personal profile

Personal Statement

I joined the Department of Psychological Sciences and Health as a Lecturer in January 2023. I am interested in combining behavioural and psychological theory with broader social and public health perspectives, mainly to develop and evaluate evidence-based health behaviour change interventions.

I obtained my PhD in 2016 from the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow. My thesis examined men’s responses to receiving objective feedback on their physical activity and other indicators of health-risk within the context of a gender-sensitised weight management programme (Football Fans in Training; FFIT). After completing my PhD, I continued to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow within the School of Health and Wellbeing and the School of Social and Political Sciences. In 2021, I joined General Practice and Primary Care as a Lecturer coordinating the MSc in Primary Care, University of Glasgow.

Research Interests

My research has a broad interdisciplinary social science focus, bringing together behavioural and psychological theory with broader social and public health perspectives. I am predominantly interested in developing and evaluating health behaviour change interventions, utilising novel settings and approaches to reach underserved populations. My current work focuses mainly on the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviours (e.g. physical activity and diet) and improving mental health and wellbeing (e.g. reducing HIV-related stigma and gambling-related harms). I am interested in how nature-based initiatives and digital technologies influence health and wellbeing.
