Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am the Deputy Course Leader for the PGDE with a particular remit for Secondary. I teach across the Masters, PGDE and the BA courses and joined the University in 2009. Prior to this I was Principal Teacher of Geography in a secondary school and completed a two year secondment to the University of Glasgow between 2005-2007.

My aim is to ensure our new teachers are of the highest calibre engaging with a vareity of learning and teaching approaches that support all learners. I assist new, and etablished, teachers in developing active learning in and outside the classroom and in working with Learning for Sustainability.  I work with, develop and support students in teaching geography in secondary and primary.

On campus I work with a variety of approaches to support students including cooperative learning, outdoor learning and disciplinary literacy and I work in schools with teachers on cooperative learning and disciplinary literacy.

Research Interests

I am interested in disciplinary literacy and how experienced teachers can be empowered to embed new literacy pedagogies into the secondary curriculum.  I am currently working in a large secondary school in Glasgow with teachers of all disciplines to improve literacy in their subject area.  In addition, I work with pedagogical frameworks that impact on student teacher learning about cooperative and collaborative pedagogies.
