Personal Statement
Dr Wilson was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education in August 2021. Her background is in psychology and in particular, the psychology of education. She received a BA Honours (First Class) degree in Psychology in 2013 and a Psychology PhD in 2016 both from the University of Strathclyde. She has also completed a PgCert in Researcher Development (2016, University of Strathclyde) and a PgCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2017, University of the West of Scotland). Between 2016 and 2021, Dr Wilson worked as a lecturer in Psychology at the University of the West of Scotland.
Dr Wilson’s research interests relate to inequalities, diversity, and inclusion. She has a strong interest in addressing educational issues from a psychological perspective. She has expertise in the inclusion of children with developmental disabilities (e.g. Autism, ADHD and intellectual disabilities). She has examined teacher, parental and sibling beliefs, unconscious bias and inclusive policy and practice. Dr Wilson also works on projects examining the social inclusion of children with developmental disabilities. These studies investigate what enhances social relationships (e.g. pets, social media, emotional literacy training) and decreases negative experiences (e.g. bullying). She is also interested in inclusion within higher education. In addition to this, Dr Wilson is involved in a number of projects examining the psychological and educational impact of poverty.
