Personal profile

Personal Statement

I graduated from Jordanhill College of Education in 2004 with a PGDE in Primary Education. I have worked in primary schools as both a class teacher and principal teacher, leading on developing the curriculum in Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood and also in digital education. I joined the University of Strathclyde in 2017 on a fixed term contract as a Teaching Associate in Primary Education, returning in 2021 on a permanent basis.

I am the module leader on the PGDE Professional Practice module, preparing students for placements in Early, First and Second Level classes. Within the PGDE programme, I am a module tutor on the Curriculum and Pedagogy module, leading on the Science aspect of STEM.

On the BAPE course, I teach on the Pedagogy and Placement Learning in second, third and fourth year programmes, preparing and assessing students on placement. I am also part of the tutor team on modules focussing on RME/HWB, Numeracy in the Primary School and Protecting and Safeguarding Children.

I am the lead on the EXSE and EXSE for Learning programmes. These are aimed at supporting BAPE students through a range of social and professional learning activities.

I have recently been appointed as External Examiner for Kingston University in London for both the BAPE and PGDE programmes.

I have worked with colleagues and local authorities to develop and deliver a vocational programme for senior-phase secondary pupils called Introduction to Teaching which has familiarised the pupils with the fundamental knowledge about teaching to encourage them to pursue a career in education.

I have recently submitted an application for a grant to support the delivery of Learning for Sustainability in the University of Strathclyde.  A request for £5000 to the Alpkit Foundation has been made, to fund the setup of an Outdoor Learning group
