As a part-time researcher I focus on relevant areas where I can combine my academic research with my professional experience. Therefore, my current research concentrates on digitalisation and its strategy/leadership.
My professional experience spans two decades, parallel to which I have also been a part-time student and researcher. My academic journey started at the University of Mannheim. While studying business administration part time, I researched corporate strategy, especially competitive intelligence.
My diploma thesis was published by Gabler-Springer as a management book and reviewed in the German edition of the Harvard Business Review and in Manager Magazine. Further part-time studies followed, for example in the area of industrial engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Giessen-Friedberg and law at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
Currently I work in executive roles, e.g. SVP Corporate Development in the energy sector, where I head the areas innovation, strategy, controlling, risk and regulatory management. In addition I teach part-time at the University of Mannheim.
As I’m a part-time researcher based in Germany you will not meet me on a regular basis at Strathclyde but you can easily reach me by email Christian.lux@strath.ac.uk or phone.
My research lies in the area of digital transformation and strategy. This starts with the definition of the often interchangeably used terms digitalisation, digitisation and digital transformation.
The main question I research is how the “digital transformation” of companies is led and planned in this VUCA environment and how this influences corporate strategy.
As the relevant research context, I focus on the telecommunications/media and utilities industries. Both industries are highly impacted by the digital transformation but at different stages. While the telco/media industry is at a mature stage of digital transformation, the utilities industry remains at an early stage.
Please find more information about my current research at https://energy-transformation.net.
At the University of Mannheim my teaching focusses on academic writing and managerial skills including presentation and debating skills. I am passionate about building a bridge between my experience and knowledge and teaching students at a university. As this is also bidirectional I receive a variety of ideas from fruitful discussions with students.
Further teaching interests are in the field of Corporate Strategy and Digitalisation.
