Personal profile

Personal Statement

I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Applied Biochemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and a PhD in Biochemistry (Pharmacognosy and Toxicology) at Bayero University Kano in Nigeria. Currently, I'm serving as a Sponsored Visiting Researcher at Dr. Veronique Seidel's Lab in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. My research primarily revolves around uncovering, isolating, and identifying promising bioactive compounds derived from natural sources, particularly plants. These compounds are of special interest due to their potential in developing new therapeutics and addressing conditions like Diabetes, Obesity, Cancer, and Infectious diseases.  I employ a combination of wet chemistry (in vitro and in vivo assays) and computational modeling (in silico) techniques for compound characterization. Additionally, I also have a strong passion for investigating the epidemiology of these diseases (diabetes and obesity) within different populations, aiming to comprehend the various factors, including environmental, social, and genetic elements, that contribute to their prevalence and occurrence.
