After completing a PhD from Cranfield School of Management, my first academic position was with the University of Stirling, where I spent two years as a Lecturer in Finance. I joined Strathclyde Business School in July 2012 and currently hold the position of Professor of Finance. My research interests cover environmental, social, and governance risks in corporate finance. I have published (or have papers accepted for publication) in internationally recognised journals such as the British Journal of Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, Journal of Financial Stability, and more. I also serve as a referee for various journals, including the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, European Journal of Finance, European Financial Management, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Economics Letters, Pacific Basin Finance Journal, Journal of Asian Economics, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, and Sustainability.
I have successfully supervised 12 PhD candidates to completion and currently supervise 4 PhD students. I also serve as Director of Research for the Accounting and Finance Department. I have been recognised for teaching excellence, receiving the University of Strathclyde 2022 Teaching Excellence Award (Best in Faculty) and the University of Stirling 2011 Recognising Achievement in Teaching Excellence Award. I serve as an Academic Adviser to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and have served as an External Adviser to the European Investment Bank. “When Chandra teaches, he excites the class and shows enthusiasm in what he is teaching. Something I have never experienced with other lecturers. His overall knowledge of finance is vast, and he always offers himself for any kind of support to the students and makes himself available. As well as these reasons, he is friendly and chats to students before and after lectures, asking how they like the course and how they are finding the workload. Lecture slides and examples are always detailed but concise.”
