Personal Statement

I am an architect by training, specialising in building physics, and I currently hold a Chancellor's Fellowship in Architecture and Health at the University of Strathclyde. I completed my Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, studying the unintended consequences of energy retrofits, in particular the hygrothermal risks that building-envelope interventions carry and how they affect performance over time.

Before Strathclyde, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), working to reduce energy demand in existing homes. Much of that research brought occupant energy practices into retrofit decisions, so that the way people actually use a building shapes the technical choices made for it. My work aims to improve the energy performance of the existing building stock and to develop low-energy, evidence-based routes to a low-carbon built environment.

Alongside my research, I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in building physics, structural systems, and research methods, working with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. I also serve on the editorial board of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation and review for other journals in building physics and building energy.
