Personal Statement
My name is Beverly Best and I am a first year PhD. student at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the Stathclyde Business Scholl of the University of Strathclyde . My research project aims to gain deeper insights on how digital technologies alleviate existing constraints among female entrepreneurs in developing countries. The focus of my study is motivated by the transformative dimensions of digital technologies on business enterprises are important worldwide issues that have encouraged encouraged various debates among scholars, researchers and practitioners. Arguments for the egalitarian and meritocratic potential of digital technologies in processes and outcomes have been met with calls of the widening digital gender divide. Hence the scope for additional seminal research on the topic is underscored. Moreover, since most of the literature on female entrepreneurship is rooted in emperical studies from Europe and the USA, this research will adopt an overarching contextual approach to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon of female entrepreneurship in Latin America and the Caribbean which has the highest total entrepreneurship activity (TEA) but is the most under-researched region, among developing countries, in the field of entrepreneurship.
