I am Bahijja Kasim, a PhD student in Psychological Sciences and Health at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, with over four years of clinical and research experience in mental health.
My research focuses on suicide and self-harm, specifically:
"Investigating the Psychological Risk Factors for Suicide and Self-Harm Thoughts and Behaviours in the North Central Region of Nigeria: Translation, Validation, and Application of the Integrated Motivational-Volitional (IMV) Model."
I have conducted a scoping review of suicide research in Nigeria, participated in the cultural adaptation of psychological assessment tools, and studied the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable populations.
I am a passionate advocate for mental health and a member of both the Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA) and the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP). I actively collaborate with grassroots organizations to promote mental health awareness and improve access to care in underserved communities.
