Research Interests
Anna studied Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in Italy, and then pursued her interest in conservation attending the SAHC Advanced Masters in Structural Analysis of Historic Buildings and Constructions thanks to an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. She's currently finishing her PhD thesis which researches the architectural conservation of 17C and 18C Scottish built heritage, focusing on historic timber roof structures. The construction history and development of these structures are investigated, along with their pathologies and causes of decay, with the aim to increase awareness about the extent, value and nature of Scottish timber roofs and their present condition. A database and related mapping of 17C and 18C Scottish buildings has been developed to store and manage the data. This tool has been used to select 56 key buildings to visit and survey. Among these, 10 case studies have been selected to proceed with further in-depth historical and archival research and pathological surveys, with the aid of in situ testing.
