Personal Statement

I have recently completed my doctrate study at the University of Strathclyde Business school within the department of Work, Employment and Organisation. My PhD examined migrant labour with the focal point being, 'career experiences of skilled Kenyan hotel migrant workers in the UK hotel sector'.

Currently, i am working as a research assistant within the department of Work, employment and organisation on a project led by Professor Tom Baum, funded by Global Challenges Research Fund and collaborating with Moi University,Kenya. The project addresses pro poor tourism in rural Kenya with a central aim of buidling capacity in researching and testing methodologies that are envisaged to give greater voice to rural communities in the planning, development and delivery of tourism within their rural locales. In so doing it is aimed at increasing understanding of indigenous approaches to knowledge.

My research interests lie broadly within the hospitality and tourism industry. I am interested in understanding a range of themes in the wider context of socio-cultural,economic and political and how these affect workers and the communities within which the industry functions.
