Personal profile

Personal Statement

Ann Doyle is a doctoral researcher at the Strathclyde Institution of Education. Ann has had the priviledge of a long career, primarily in early years, working across different sectors in the Scottish education system. Ann has experience of teaching children in nursery and primary schools, teaching early years practitioners in FE, BACP students, PGDE and BA teaching students at the University of Strathclyde. Ann has supported early years practice as a curriculum development officer in two local authorities, and quality assured early years practice at local authority and national level. Ann is particularly interested in early years pedagogy, pedagogical leadership, children's rights and emotional competence.

Research Interests

Ann is interested in understanding how early years practitioners facilitate emotional competence with preschool children. Underpinned by a range of theories from the disciplines of psychology, sociology and education, her work focuses on how children can be empowered to think constructively to regulate their emotions. As there is little research in this area, Ann anticipates her research will have implications for policy and practice.

Teaching Interests

Ann has taught on the undergraduate BACP and BA Early Level programmes in the Institute of Education.

Ann also mentors students from a range of organisations.
