Personal profile
Personal Statement
I am Postdoc Research Associate (PDRA) in Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering (CUE), under the supervision of Prof. James Windmill. My role is to investigate the use of neuromorphic (NM) event-based sensing, spike train encoding and Spiking Neural Network (SNN) based processing and to develop a multi-modal sensor module capable of detecting and identifying incoming vehicles, through the real-time analysis of acoustic signals. The project is funded by Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), Ministry of Defence, U.K.
Before the current PDRA position, I was PDRA in two different projects,
1. PDRA under the supervision of Prof. Harald Haas (Father of LiFi) in the LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC). My role was of a software research engineer to develop and implement AI/ML algorithms on the novel REASON 6G (Realising Enabling Architectures and Solutions for Open Networks) architecture and platforms.
2. PDRA under the supervision of Dr. Michele Zagnoni in Centre for Microsystems & Photonics (CMP). This postdoc was aimed at creating new software using existing image data sets from biological assays and analyse such images to develop a machine-learning algorithm for characterizing the response of in vitro models to treatments and to automate and develop protocols for Opentrons liquid handling robot.
Before being a PostDoc Research Associate, I completed my Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Vision & Deep Learning) and PgCert (Researcher Professional Development) from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, in 2022 under the able guidance/supervision of Dr. Lykourgos Petropoulakis, Dr. Gaetano Di Caterina and Prof. John J. Soraghan as my doctoral research advisor. During the Ph.D. tenure I was based in the Centre for Signal and Image Processing (CeSIP).
Before pursuing Ph.D., I did Master of Technology (Integrated) and Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Electronics & Communication Engineering from ITM University, Gwalior. Er. Sumit Mohanty was my supervisor during my Master of Technology dissertation. I passed my 12th (CBSE 2011) and 10th (CBSE 2009) standard examinations from Saint Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School, Ratlam. I am also an alumnus of D.A.V. Public School, Kusmunda.
I am also a Chartered Engineer granted by The Institution of Engineers (India) and also an Associate Member (AMIE, Membership no. AM170213-3) of The Institution of Engineers (India). Further, I am a Member (MIET, Membership no. 1100577551) of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, London, United Kingdom and Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, USA (MIEEE, Membership no. 94255601). I am also a life member of The Indian Science Congress Association (Membership no. L32125). Moreover, I am a licentiate member of the Institution of Valuers (India), (Membership no. L-26713) and an Associate Member (AMIETE) of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (Membership no. AM500656).
I am a sedulous person and strongly believe in the 3-Ds of life, which are, DEDICATION, DETERMINATION & DISCIPLINE. I am a sincere person since I think that the 3-Ds that I mentioned earlier in this paragraph can be achieved only by one key which leads to success and that is sincerity. Also, I am a good team worker as I can coordinate well with everyone. I am very adaptive in nature as I get adapted to any environment and situations very quickly and can also handle any type of pressure or stress. I am very punctual and very hard and smart working person. I have leadership qualities since I had been in NCC for 4 years and a C certificate holder in the same. I am an intrepid thinker and a quick learner as I learn everything very fast. I am a very self-motivated person and it is only because of the self-discipline that I have in me. I like to do each and every work in a very systematic and seemly way and without any discrepancy.
I have master’s thesis work that has been published as a book, an Indian patent, an Indian copyright and research publications in various journals and international conferences.
I am fluent in English, Hindi, and Bangla. I am a technology freak and always kin to develop deep and wide ken on intriguing subjects kindred to engineering. I love to innovate and research on various topics.
I also have a blog on myself, https://eramlanbasu.wordpress.com.
