Personal Statement

Dr. Amir Bordbar is a Research Fellow specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), marine hydrodynamics, and digital shipyard optimisation. With a PhD in Applied Fluid Dynamics and extensive experience in OpenFOAM-based modelling, he has developed advanced numerical frameworks for complex flow–structure interactions and sediment transport phenomena. His recent work extends into high-fidelity CFD simulations of smooth and treated marine surfaces, including laser-cleaned ship hulls, to quantify drag reduction, boundary layer behaviour, and performance optimisation. In parallel, he is actively engaged in shipyard digitalisation, applying discrete-event simulation and production modelling using Tecnomatix Plant Simulation and the Siemens STS (Simulation Toolkit Shipbuilding) library to optimise shipbuilding workflows, resource allocation, and production rescheduling strategies. His integrated expertise in physics-based modelling and industrial process simulation positions him at the intersection of marine engineering innovation and smart manufacturing systems.
