Personal Statement

I work as Research Assistant within the SMeSTech research group. I'm a computer engineer with a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences and research experience in the software industry. My current role is to investigate, analyse and experiment algorithms for visual reconstruction and image recognition. 

My interest for mathematics and for its practical applications led me to pursue a Master Degree in Computer Engineering, which I completed with an experimental thesis on a checkpoint algorithm for multi-threaded applications. Following my desire to explore more complex theoretical challenges, I worked on Graphs theory and Logic in the context of a Ph.D. course in Computer Sciences. The apparent lack of connection between the developed theories and the computer applications left me unsatisfied. Hence, my decision to work in the research and development department of a software company. During the SMART experimental project, I worked on AI planning algorithm for automatic web service composition, contributed to the development and testing of software prototypes, and collaborated with academic representatives. Witnessing the difficulty of understanding between the industry and the university, I felt the desire to act as a link between them and promote the collaboration. Hence, in the specificity of my current role, my aim is to provide industries with novel tools and technologies, to offer new improvement solutions to their processes, and to promote the cultural exchange between industries and university so that the link between theory and application remains solid.
