Abdullah is interested in supervising PhD students on the general areas of innovation management/policy, science policy, enterprise policy, social innovation and data science approaches to study science, innovation and entrepreneurship among others. Any prospective PhD students are encouraged to contact him directly.

Previously, Abdullah supervised PhD researchers studying approaches to responsibility in synthetic biology research and innovation; corporate decision making for responsible innovation; emergence of social innovation; evaluation of innovation policy and innovation in oil and gas sector in Brasil; and the impact of social entrepreneurship and innovation.
