The School of Education’s research strengths can be grouped into 3 overlapping areas and these are closely linked with our teaching and knowledge exchange activities:

 

Development of Professional Practice: This includes research into teacher education and teacher learning; early years professionals; leadership; professionals and families, professionals and autism and social and emotional development. 

 

Equity, Diversity and Social Justice: Research in issues of equity, diversity and social justice incorporates studies around poverty, gender, race and inclusion in addition to specific studies on refugee education, migration and diversity in teaching.

 

Learning, Teaching and Curriculum: Research in the School of Education relates to learning and teaching in the formal and informal curriculum, including early years pedagogy and lifelong learning.   Curriculum study includes languages, literacy, numeracy, creativity and creative arts, science education, technology and environmental and ecological education.   The School also has research strengths in philosophy with children, assessment, collaborative learning, transitions in education and higher education pedagogy.
