Transport is at the heart of our lives, arguably at the heart of civilisationCafes and salons are places to gain knowledge and insights; places for ideas and discussion. They are informal and open and the emphasis is on sharing and debating. We – that is Joan Aitken (Traffic Commissioner for Scotland); Derek Halden (DHC Loop Connections, and immediate past chair of CILT in Scotland); Professor Iain Docherty (Professor of Public Policy and Management at Glasgow University); Dr Neil Ferguson (Strathclyde University Engineering Department); and Dr Malcolm Reed (Ex Chief Executive of SPT and Transport Scotland) are setting up Cafe Logistique as an informal forum for discussion of all matters of transport and logistics.
Each of us have formal roles within logistics and transport in regulation, education; technology, consultancy, administration and policy. We are members of Institutes and Networks but we are aware that there is a gap – somewhere where ideas, policies, research and practice can be discussed and debated away from formal responsibilities.
