Replication data for: Estimating the Political Center from Aggregate Data: An Item Response Theory Alternative to the Stimson Dyad Ratios Algorithm

Dataset

Description

This is the replication data set for a paper that provides an algorithm to produce a time series estimate of the political center (or median voter) from aggregate survey data, even when the same questions are not asked in most years. It includes a data file for public opinion surveys from the UK from 1947 to 2005. For each survey question, the data file gives the proportion of respondents answering in a left-wing manner. It also includes R and JAGS files to produce estimates of the policy mood for each year from this data. Finally there are files to assess the performance of the model against other models, and measures of goodness of fit of individual items. (2013).
