Dataset of Daily Water Scarcity Level in Scotland (1991 - 2025)

Description

This excel dataset provides the first long-term, standardised record of historic water scarcity in Scotland. This dataset contains daily Water Scarcity Levels (WSLs) for each of the 147 geographic areas within SEPA's Drought Reporting and Assessment Tool (DRAT) over the period 1st October 1991 to 30th September 2025. SEPA's DRAT tool ascribes one of five Water Scarcity Level categories: Normal Conditions, Early Warning, Alert, Moderate Scarcity, Significant Scarcity.

This dataset forms a key deliverable of an Innovation Partnership funded knowledge exchange project* which supported collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and SEPA.

The dataset is constrained by the availability and relevance of underpinning data as well as geographic delineations within the DRAT. Data users should please familiarise with these limitations*.
