Description

Our aim was to provide a review on seminal and recent research within the nanomedicine and medical silk field. We highlight: current successes and limitations of nanomedicines to date; delivery processes and barriers to uptake in cancer cells; optimisation of nanoparticle properties for increased efficacy; the benefits of silk fibroin as a carrier material; the benefits and drawbacks of various silk nanoparticle processing methods; chemical modification of silk fibroin in homogeneous or heterogeneous formats.
