These are the replication data for "Commitment or Expertise? Technocratic appointments as political responses to economic crises". The main explanatory variables on the political and professional background of finance ministers are coded by the authors as discussed in the paper. The other variables used in the paper are taken from public sources as discussed in the paper and, if altered, clearly shown how in the do file. The data files provided are in the following formats: Stata 15, Stata 11/12, and Excel. The do file is in Stata and copied in a rich text file format. The data span from 1980 to 2015 and include 13 Western European countries.
