An updated 2018 UK SAM for CCS deployment with shipping in different industrial clusters

Dataset

Description

This is an updated 2018 Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) of the UK for use in projects aiming to explore the introduction of a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), transport and storage (T&S) specifically, sector in the UK economy. We include two variations: one for the Scottish cluster and another for the Viking cluster. In both, a mix of pipelines and shipping is used to transport captured CO2.
As a starting point, the CCS sector is assumed to be identical, in terms of its supply chain and production technology, to the existing UK Oil and Gas sector. In fact, it has been created by disaggregating the Oil and Gas sector. However, as we are considering the case of CO2 transportation through a mix of pipelines and shipping is used, the inputs of the CCS sector are adjusted appropriately to reflect the fact that less capital is necessary to be owned and operated by the sector and at the same time more imports of shipping services are necessary. The scope of producing two variants of the SAM for each cluster is so that we can incorporate the different characteristics of each cluster in the structure of the T&S sector.
This SAM incorporates the latest input-output tables published by the Office for National Statistics.
