Description

Invited contributor to Zero Waste Scotland's "Designing Out Construction Waste: A guide for Architects and Designers".
This guide is predominantly aimed at architects and designers who will gain an understanding of the practical considerations and interventions which can be made throughout the design and construction phase of a project to minimise material waste during construction, and for the lifetime of the resultant building. The guide identifies five principles of Designing Out Waste (DoW), which are then applied to some general concepts of building design, expanded into a series of potential action points, and evidenced by case studies and practical examples. The objective of this approach is to provide clear guidance on opportunities for DoW and the benefits of adopting these Principles. The action points and recommendations for consideration are then mapped against the RIBA 2013 Plan of Work Stages to illustrate where in the design and construction process they can be applied.
