Vlasov simulations of relativistic parametric instabilities in laser-plasma interactions

Description

The talk summarizes past and recent developments of parametric instabilities in laser-plasma interactions, and recent simulation works on parametric instabilities using Vlasov simulations. Parametric instabilities in plasmas have been studied theoretically for at least 5 decades, and have recently gained renewed and urgent interest in view of the attempts to obtain inertial confinement fusion at NIF and other laser facilities. On the occasion of Professor Chuan Shen Liu's 80th birthday.
