Description

ABSTRACT
Autistic girls are significantly more likely than their non-autistic peers to be persistently absent from school, even though research suggests they want to be in school, learning. So why do so many stop attending school, and what needs to change? This talk will use the frame of TLC to discuss the findings from a participatory research project with 10 autistic adolescent females. They generated personal constructs of their ideal school, and timelines that identified positive and negative events of significance to them in their school lives. These guided discussions and analysis of their experiences to co-create meanings, and to make recommendations for change.
