TLC Network: Trauma and Disability

Professor John Davis (Professor Education) and Dr Anna Robinson (Lecturer in Autism) will be leading the next session with a presentation on: trauma and disability

Anna will present findings drawn from a body of published research on Emotion-Focused Therapy for Autism Spectrum (EFT-AS), a small group humanistic-experiential psychotherapy (HEP). Anna will begin by presenting a trauma model for clients with autistic process. She will use autistic voices to illustrate the change process for working through emotional injuries within a trauma case conceptualization model: activation, deepening and transformation of emotions, accessing of core pain and associated unmet needs, use of adaptive emotions such as empathy for self and others. John will draw out and connect to key themes from Anna’s trauma paper. Including how the paper connects with his experience of the social model and affirmative model of disability. How it enabled him to reflect on the context of his own health issues in the work place and on the importance of group reflexivity and change e.g. in relation to MSc Inclusion and BA Childhood practice.
