Description

Following on from the Principal's email introducing the new Strathclyde Strategic Themes and the Theme Launch event on 30th January, we are now planning activities aimed at ensuring all researchers and academics across all faculties have the opportunity to communicate their research to colleagues, with a view to forming new cross-disciplinary collaborations around each of the Strategic Themes. The collaborative groupings formed will be well placed to respond to upcoming funding opportunities, including RCUK, H2020, Innovate UK and the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), which has a significant allocation of funding to support cross-disciplinary research and development activity. It is our intention to run a series of workshops to communicate plans for the Strategic Themes with the wider University community, to identify those members of the University community who would like to contribute to this activity, and to discuss mechanisms for effective engagement, both internally and externally. The new Advanced Manufacturing & Materials Strategic Theme activity will be coordinated by Professor Bill Ion, and the first workshop will be held on Wednesday 29th March 2017 at 12.30pm to approx. 4pm (location TBC) and we would like to invite all interested parties to participate in the activities. The workshop will begin with a presentation on current University plans and activities within the Advanced Manufacturing & Materials Theme, followed by an opportunity for individuals to present (5 mins max) their own current activities, ideas and aspirations for research on Advanced Manufacturing & Materials related topics. This will be followed by an opportunity to network with colleagues and to develop ideas for cross-disciplinary collaborations and research projects. Lunch will be provided at 12:30pm, immediately preceding the presentations. There will also be refreshments available throughout the afternoon.
