Description

The success Strathclyde has had with UKRI Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) inspired the introduction of Strathclyde CDTs (SCDTs) in 2014. Since the initial launch the scheme has continued to grow and there are now 18 SCDTs, which have attracted an estimated £7M external funding and recruited over 160 students.

There are two alternating types of calls for SCDTs; the Competitive Call, and a Principal’s Choice round. For the 2019/20 round, the Principal has formulated a new approach, and we are pleased to announce the Strathclyde Doctoral School CDTs for Chancellor’s Fellows.

Call announcement

Strathclyde Doctoral School CDTs will specifically support and catalyse the development of Centres that will deliver emerging multidisciplinary research endeavours towards Challenge-type projects, and which are aligned with the University Strategic Themes. We anticipate funding 7 new Strathclyde Doctoral School CDTs, one per Strategic Theme, and each will attract a maximum of £100K of central resource towards 3 x 3.5 year doctoral studentships (funded at UK/EU UKRI rates); a minimum of 3 x 3.5 year students require to be initiated on launch of each Strathclyde Doctoral School CDT. This model does require an additional £111k funding, which should be drawn from Faculties, Departments/Schools and external sources.

We are holding a call launch workshop for Chancellor's Fellows on Thursday 7th February 2019 at 9am in the Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC), which will include individual Strategic Theme-based sandpit sessions where you will be invited to partner together to formulate proposals for competitive assessment.
