Description

STEM for BRITAIN is a major scientific poster competition and exhibition which has been held in Parliament since 1997, and is organised by the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee. Chaired by Stephen Metcalfe MP, its aim is to give members of both Houses of Parliament an insight into the outstanding research work being undertaken in UK universities by early-career researchers.

In this event, I present my research entitled "Ship Placement Strategy for Fisherman Safety." Unlike merchant ships, the payload of a fishing vessel constantly changes during operation. These fluctuations significantly affect stability in waves. One stability failure highlighted by the IMO is Parametric Roll, which can lead to the capsizing of fishing vessels.

This research identifies a key parameter influencing parametric roll by investigating the impact of the loading condition of fishing vessels. Utilising optimisation tools, it determines the optimal load position and hull form to mitigate parametric roll and enhance seakeeping performance.
