Social Sciences Now and Then: Celebrating 50 Years of Social Sciences at Bangor University

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in conference

    Description

The School of Social Sciences celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016. Founded in October 1966 as the Department of Social Theory and Institutions in what was then the University College of North Wales, its raison d'être was to understand the rapid and far-reaching changes to social institutions of the 1960s, and to address the need for qualified practitioners in the expanding social services. The conference event will look back at 50 years of developments in Social Sciences, in relation to the School’s major contributions to Health, Social Care, Welfare and Wellbeing; Communities, Cultures, Languages and Identities; and Crime, Criminal Justice and Society. It will examine contemporary concerns, and it will look towards the challenges on the horizon in the UK, Europe and from a global perspective.
