SDSNUK Going Green Roundtable - Communities in Transition: Impacts of decarbonisation in regions with fossil fuel and energy intensive industries

Activity: Participating in or Organising an EventOrganiser of special symposia

Description

This roundtable was one of three in a series designed to bring together leading academic experts and policy makers on economic and social factors that will drive – or impede- the transition to Net Zero in the UK. With the commitment to ‘no new oil and gas licenses’ in the North Sea, and a reduction of economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions by at least 81% by 2035 the UK must consider how to manage its economic transition in a way that minimises harm and maximises socioeconomic benefit.

The roundtable discussion set out to establish what is known on the topic of communities in transition and establish the key evidence gaps for policy makers. The conversation is summarised in a public facing report and used to inform the development on future research questions for members of the SDSN UK network, bridging the gap between policy and research priorities.
