Description
Creative Writing WorkshopBeing diagnosed with any medical condition may generate a wide range of reactions and feelings. This is the case for Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Patients often read their Private and Confidential letters alone, but what happens after that? Do they disclose its content, do they keep it for themselves? What happens to the words written on these pages?
Such questions led Caroline Verdier, Lou Sarabadzic and Anne Nyyssönen to create Reframing the HPV narrative, an installation on display at the GWL. It is inspired by medical correspondence and leaflets linked to HPV. Their work explores how creative writing, paper folding, and other artistic practices can help understand the many different reactions one may have to receiving this diagnosis. Could creativity positively influence the perception of HPV, and impact one’s sense of agency?
The creative team now want to open up this question to the workshop participants. In order to put this into practice, you will explore some creative tools to revisit thoughts, questions, and concerns. Far from being limited to medical narratives, these tools could prove helpful for a range of creative writing avenues.
