Reimagining Partnership Teaching: A Collaborative Approach to Success

Activity: Talk or PresentationOral presentation

Description

Workshop for teachers of English as an additional language

What does successful Partnership Teaching look like in diverse, multilingual classrooms? How can mainstream and EAL teachers co-create meaningful learning experiences that truly support bilingual learners?

The Partnership Teaching (PT) model, developed by Bourne & McPake (1991), offers a collaborative framework for mainstream and EAL teachers to plan, implement, and evaluate action research (AR) projects that enhance pupils’ language, literacy, and learning while simultaneously strengthening teachers’ professional development. While widely applied in England, PT remains less explored in Scotland.

In this workshop, we will share insights from a year-long study at Annette Street Primary School in Glasgow (2023–2024), where the PT model was trialled with a focus on multilingual learners. Two EAL practitioners, Ella Van Loock and Anne-Marie Love, will share their first hand experiences of rolling out the model within Glasgow City Council, highlighting both the successes and the challenges.
