Reflection on the ‘value’ of a participatory filmmaking project for young people with refugee experience making home in Scotland.

In this presentation, I reflect on the film project through the lens of 'an ethics of care' (Noddings 2013; 1984). I argue that an 'ethics of care' view helps us to navigate what Dennis (2015) calls the 'current sector creep towards instrumentalising arts for social agendas' (p. 321). It frames our project aims and actions within a relational approach that emphasises 'presence, engrossment in the other and a desire for the other's wellbeing' (Noddings 1984: 19) and urges us to avoid slipping into abstractions, labels and box-ticking modes.
