QESR Reviewer

Activity: Consultancy typesConsultancy

Description

The new review method is comprised of two phases with the second phase building on from the information gathered in the first. Phase One (2022-24) is made up of two components: a Quality Enhancement and Standards Review (QESR) and an institutional liaison meeting. The purpose of Phase One is to consider each Higher Education Institution’s (HEI’s) approach to managing academic quality and standards. This initial phase will reflect on the HEI’s ELIR 4 outcome, its subsequent response, and look forward towards a ‘deep dive’ enhancement-focused review in Phase Two (2024-25) which will align with the implementation of the new Tertiary Quality Framework.

Each HEI will undergo a QESR across the two-year period of Phase One. To support each QESR, QAA Scotland will employ a small peer review team, which will include a student reviewer, an academic reviewer and a coordinating reviewer. Review teams will be asked to engage with a contained evidence base drawn from existing self-evaluative quality assurance and enhancement documentation produced by institutions. The review team will then spend a single day meeting with institutional staff and students online. The outcome of the QESR will be a report, outlining the findings of the review team, with institutions asked to produce a follow up action plan. The review team’s report will be published on QAA Scotland’s website.
