Project Somnolence Artist and Researcher Meetup

Activity: Public Engagement and OutreachPublic Events

Description

With delicious catering from Soul Food Sisters, we hosted an evening of informal sharing and networking. Creative practitioners, artists and researchers across Scotland were invited to meet and share ideas around the following prompts:

How does your work touch on sleep and/or dreaming?
Have you used, or do you think you might benefit from, arts-based methods?
What would you want from a Scotland-wide sleep research network grounded in this area?
What barriers do we face getting the public and funding bodies interested in our research?

As a group, we discussed the brain, sensory inputs, time, stress, darkness, night walks and dark skies -- with attendees who were creative practitioners, philosophers, neuroscientists. We explored the affordances of various forms of interdisciplinary residency and the rotational leadership which could support genuine methods sharing in such a context. Participants were updated with Project Somnolence’s current stage of planning and told they could be informed via our website about plans next year.
