Description

I gave an invited seminar at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). My seminar was on the design of quantum-enhanced receivers.

Title: Achievable quantum coherent state discrimination.

Abstract: Coherent states are prime candidates as information carriers for applications across quantum technologies. However, the distinguishability of coherent states is fundamentally limited, which inextricably constrains the performance of these applications. Fortunately, quantum mechanics equips us with tools to approach these limits through the careful design of quantum receivers. A well-designed quantum receiver combines practicality with high performance. I will highlight how practical receivers, those readily implemented with current technologies, can surpass the standard quantum limit for ambiguous state discrimination, and provide near-optimal performances for unambiguous state discrimination.
