Description

Introduction to the 'Lest we forget' documentary which will be screened as part of the programme of events planned for the Refugee Festival Scotland 2016. 'WWI Refugees Then and Now' tells the story of new and established Scots as they discover and document the heritage of the arrival, reception and experiences of Belgian refugees in Scotland during the First World War from 1914 - 1918. The film will be introduced by Dr Caroline Verdier, who will offer insight into the experience of Belgian refugees who settled in Renfrewshire and the responses of the host communities there. Transit Zone is a documentary about life for refugees in Calais who are trying to cross the border to Britain. Life is harsh in the makeshift camps but the people living in them are determined and full of hope that one day they'll make it on to one of the lorries leading to the UK - and hopefully a better life.
