Description

These are two outlines of two Call for Papers for special issues of Open House International _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Transformations in Architecture and Urbanism of Cities in the Global South Publishing Date: OHI - June 2016, Volume 41, Issue 2 Guest Editors: Prof Ashraf M. Salama and Dr David Grierson _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The revolution of information and telecommunication technologies, which started since the mid 1990s, has triggered unprecedented flows of capital, people, goods, and information between cities around the world and cities of the global south are not an exception. Many cities are acquiring geostrategic importance, positioning themselves as connected, competitive, and desirable places to attract transnational practices, international investment, and diversify economies. Within this new world order cities in the global south have experienced dramatic urban transformations that instigated critical questions about regenerating and retrofitting cities, international connectivity, international attractiveness, and the quality of urban life, among others. For this issue of Open House International interested scholars, academics, and practitioners are invited to submit expression of interests to the guest editors. Contributions must address cities and contexts in Africa, South America, South East Asia, or the MENA region. Issues of interest include: • Representation, spectacles, and global city image • Culture, lifestyles, and transformations in housing typologies • Livability, diversity, and quality of urban life • Regeneration and sustainable urban conservation • Socio-cultural/socio-economic sustainability and the right to the city • Squatter settlements and informal urbanism • Gated communities and cities within cities • The spatial practice of migrant communities _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Advances in Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism Publishing Date: OHI - December 2016, Volume 41, Issue 4 Guest Editors: Dr David Grierson and Prof Ashraf M. Salama _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Sustainable architecture has been in practice for longer than many scholars realize. There is, however, a continuous debate in design, architecture, and construction circles on creating sustainable environments, and there are widely varying views as to how sustainability can be approached, researched, and practiced. The mainstream utilization of sustainable design and planning parameters has recently gained importance among academics and practitioners. Coupled with advanced conceptual design and performance evaluation tools the application of information and building technologies enabled the delivery of a more sustainable built environment in response to government, industry and societal needs. The trans-disciplinary nature of sustainability as it applies to a wide spectrum of environments now mandates a closer and critical look on current practices and a testing of emerging ideas and applications. For this issue of Open House International interested scholars, academics, and practitioners are invited to submit expressions of interest to the guest editors. Contributions must address the multifaceted nature of sustainability as it applies to architecture and/or the urban environment. Issues of interest include: • Paradigmatic transformations in architecture and ecology • Population growth, urban sprawl and slow urbanism. • Self-sustained and energy autonomous communities • Sustainable building systems and performance evaluation • Users well being and healthy buildings and communities • Advances in low carbon building design • Architectural and urban education for a sustainable future • Applications of digital technologies in sustainable design processes _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Open House International is covered by EBSCO Publishing , the ELSEVIER Bibliographic database SCOPUS and all products of THOMSON ISI index bases including SSCI-Social Science Citation Index and AHCI-Arts and Humanities Citation Index The journal is also listed on the following Architectural index lists: RIBA, ARCLIB, AVERY and EKISTICS. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
