Description

The project aims to develop a suite of online CPD events relevant for design professionals operating in the design engineering and construction sector in Scotland focusing on current research and teaching within the University of Strathclyde in the area of Design Methods and Practices. Design Methods and Practices are fast becoming key factors influencing industrial competitiveness and have the potential to be important contributors to economic and social development. The initial topics will focus on the three currently pertinent areas of globalisation, sustainability and creativity.Key objectives are:· To develop a CPD income stream from the latest research and teaching development in key areas of Design Methods and Practices, initially across the departments of DMEM and Architecture.· To increase critical awareness of current issues and developments in Design Methods and Practices among participants.· To expand a network in the area of Design Methods and Practices to researchers together with contacts in industry, business and the public sector.· To escalate strategic partnerships with industry, business, and the public sector (consultancy and feasibility studies).· To enhance postgraduate recruitment through initial engagement with the CPD programme. In terms of market demand, relevant design professional bodies, such as IET (Institute of Engineering Technology) and the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), set out the requirements for qualified and registered members to undertake continuing professional development (CPD) activities. It is obligatory for registered engineers and architects to maintain their competence throughout their working lives by undertaking planned and structured CPD. This project will provide such CPD activities through the provision of the latest research and teaching developments in Design Methods and Practices, in the first instance, in Global Design, Sustainable Design and Creativity, using state-of-the-art and pervasive technologies. Companies have expressed interest in these three key areas already.
